Types Of Bread








Bread is a food product that has a long history dating back to the neolithic period. The earlier bread versions were made by cooking grain paste, which is a paste made from cereal grains and water. Now the bread is made by steaming, baking or frying the dough. The raw materials for bread include flour, water, salt and yeast that acts as a leavening agent. Some times additional things like spices, sugar, vegetables and seeds are also added to decorate it and add flavor to it. There are different types of breads according to the preferences of people in different regions.



Some of the types of breads that are popular among masses are

1. Plain Bread:

This is a simple themeless bread.
The loaf of a plain bread appears soft with no problem in cutting. It has a soft crust and looks more like a brioche. The crust has a nice colour. The body has a white colour and is soft and fluffy. Plain bread does not taste very good, but still it is manageable. It has a marginal consistency. It tastes a bit sweet with a hint of sourness. Aftertaste of the bread is indifferent. Thus the taste is below average.

2. Sourdough:

This kind of bread is spherical and appears as a big loaf bubble with a light colour. It has a hard crust and is very light in weight, more than expected. Easy to cut but good looking slices are hard to make as the loaf collapses very easily. The crust is consistent having sweet taste. The crumb is soft, fluffy and sourdough. Overall the taste is OK.

3. French Bread:

The loaf of a French bread is honey coloured, folded on top and shiny. you can easily cut this bread and the slices also look good. It has a white and fluffy crumb. The crust is without any consistency and very soft. It tastes bland.

4. Breads with vegetables:

Having vegetables and herbs like garlic, onion, rosemary, thyme.
These breads can be prepared using different vegetables and herbs like garlic, onion, potato, rosemary, and many more. These breads have an average density loaf. The crust has a soft feeling. It can be cut with very little trouble and the slices look good. The crust of the bread tastes OK and the body tastes above average. It has no aftertaste.
